Scott is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia, and his practice is patent focused. His area of technology is electrical and electronic engineering with particular expertise in relation to computer software and hardware based inventions, gaming systems, automotive electrical components, e-commerce, business methods, telecommunications, and networking and Internet technologies. He has also had extensive experience with mechanical inventions.

He is involved in all aspects of patent attorney work including drafting patent specifications, filing applications for patent and registered design protection in Australia and internationally, prosecuting those applications to grant, providing infringement and validity advice and acting in relation to opposition proceedings.

Before joining EKM Scott was employed as a patent attorney and IT network administrator of a medium sized Melbourne based patent attorney firm. As a result of his dual role Scott has had over 7 years experience running and maintaining an IT network and providing technical support for end users. He has extensive knowledge of a number of operating systems, the setup and administration of networks, and the operation and maintenance of various peripherals.

He has also been involved in the development and maintenance of websites and staff training in IT matters. This hands-on experience is invaluable when dealing with IT related inventions.

Scott has also worked in the Australian liquor retail industry for over 10 years, focussing mainly on the sale and customer appreciation of wine. His experience in this industry has provided him with considerable knowledge of the challenges faced by businesses in the retail and liquor industry and their commercial objectives. As a result, a portion of his practice is dedicated to assisting wineries and wine related businesses to protect their intellectual property in Australia and internationally. His knowledge of the running and management of retail businesses is of great assistance when drafting and/or prosecuting ecommerce or business method related inventions.

Today Scott maintains his involvement in the wine industry by presenting tastings and seminars. He enjoys attending wine exhibitions and is currently working on building up his cellar. He also enjoys dining out with friends, entertaining and travel.
