Who do you trust these days?
There have been many unprincipled organisations over the years who have sent unsolicited letters to the holders of both Australian and International Trade Marks requiring payment when no payment is due or required, or for provision of services which do not exist. One such organisation called "The World Intelligent Property Office" is using a logo almost identical to the World Intellectual Property Office as shown above and is using very similar contact details to WIPO who is the official body.
They are sending out "Invoices" to holders of registered trade marks and on them they state that "Failure to pay Registration/Publication Fee, your international mark registration could be cancelled".
At all times, please be aware that if you receive invoices or requests for payment that have not come from your attorneys you should verify that they are legitimate. A 20 second email to your attorney could save you many hundreds of dollars in fees that you have paid to an unscrupulous organisation.
